Diversity week
Year by year, the B. Braun group organizes a diversity week, which is full of presentations, workshops and talks on topics related to diversity. In last year's edition, we focused on driving development through the prism of various perspectives.
Our contribution
Global Diversity Week 2023 was celebrated during the week from 22 to 26 May. This year's theme was: how different perspectives drive advancement. The event was held in an online format - for five full days there were opportunities to take part in prepared workshops, lectures, panel discussions and even a yoga session.
A group from B. Braun Business Services Poland (the only team from Poland) prepared a panel on building diverse teams. The discussion was attended by our employees and managers, who were willing to share their experiences and perspectives. The panel was divided into three sections, starting with recruitment, onboarding and regular work:
The moderator of the first part of the panel was Kasia, who discussed the topic of recruitment. She mentioned how important this stage is in terms of building a diverse team. We heard about how to find the right candidates and what happens next - the importance of approach, inclusive language and support to go through the whole process until hiring.
“The recruitment process is an extremely important stage in the context of building a diverse team.”
Introduction to organization
The main theme of the second part of the meeting was onboarding - the introduction period of an employee to an organisation. Without a doubt, this is a key moment for a new employee in the organisation - he or she acquires the necessary knowledge and learns how to function in a new environment. Magdalena, who discussed with employees about their start at B. Braun, highlighted the importance of onboarding: This is the moment when many questions come up and it is very important to feel that there is always someone to answer them and be supportive. Her words were backed up by numerous examples of our employees who have come to our organisation from different corners of the world and have had to find their way in a new reality that can at first seem scary.
“This is the moment when many questions come up and it is very important to feel that there is always someone to answer them and be supportive. ”
Commitment and trust as the most important factors
During the meeting, it was underlined many times, how important it is to support the team every step of the way, not only at the beginning of their careers, but also when they go through their next stages.
Without the engagement and trust of both sides, it would be impossible to build such diverse teams that can rely on each other regardless of the situation.
The panel was summed up by Tomasz Wróbel, President of the Management Board, and at the end of the meeting all the listeners were able to ask questions, which were actively answered by the panellists. Thank you all for your participation and we hope to meet again during Global Diversity Week 2024!
